Celebrate Chinese New Year at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay during Huayi. Back in 2020 with an exciting line-up of theatre, dance and music programmes, the festival highlights the wit, imagination, and curiosity of leading Chinese artists from Singapore and beyond.
Look forward to key programmes including Toy Factory’s 30th-anniversary work on the historical Seven Sages, starring Nelson Chia and Sharon Au. Called 7 Sages of the Bamboo Grove, the new work traces the artists’ tireless and relentless search for the elusive bamboo grove.
Also, don’t miss The Long Goodbye, a heartwarming tearjerker that explores the relationship between a father with dementia and his caregiver son. The stage production is adapted from Taiwanese writer Luo Yijun’s heartwarming essay collection My Little Boys.
If you’re a music fan, catch a brand-new showcase by R&B singer David Tao or experience classic films like never before at Unspoken Melodies, which showcases original scores performed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) – paired with a screening of classic silent films. Qiao Yang, 55-year-old pioneer in contemporary dance, is also presenting a powerful solo piece that chronicles her dance journey in Almost 55.
