You said it, We did it”的网页,来展示学校收到的反馈与进展,所以希望同学们尽可能参与调查。

Good morning everyone! My name is Kelvin Liu, I am the Chief Operating Officer of James Cook University, Singapore Campus.
It brings me great pleasure to welcome you to James Cook University this morning. I wish to congratulate each of you, first on securing your University place, second for making the right choice to study in our University. James Cook University places students at the centre of everything we do, and we believe you will enjoy your time with us amid your pursuit of knowledge and along your journey of self-discovery.
In your time here at JCU, the Student Affairs department will be the key department you will liaise with most during your study. At JCU, our Student Affairs department aims to provide the Student First Experience; which means providing you, our students, concierge service from the moment you step into University till you become a JCU Alumni.
The Student Affairs department is made up of 4 offices.
The first office is Student Ambassador. The Student Ambassadors are your primary communication channel with the University; and by now, you would have already been assigned to your designated Student Ambassador. Should you have any doubts or questions throughout your studies, either relating to Academics studies or any other areas of concern; remember, your appointed Student Ambassador is always your first point of contac
Next, Campus Activities office, the host of your Students Orientation programme today. Campus Activities together with the Student Council, Student Clubs, extends your exciting University experience outside of the classroom by organising many exciting activities, such as sports, music and dance, culture clubs and many more. The sky is the limit.
For all international students, the Campus Activities office also provides Airport Pickups, Accommodation Arrangements, Medical Check-ups and Completion of ICA Student Pass Formalities.
Here, I would like to give special mention the Student Council and Orientation Committee members, under the leadership of Beverly Rodrigues, President of Student Council, for helping to make this orientation a success.
Student Careers Office is the third office. It is never too early for you to be exploring your employability even as a new student. The Office organises many Career Workshops, Talks, and Visits so you learn about what the workforce will look like after your graduation. The Office also manages the Career Fairs, both face-to-face and online.
At JCU we believe in a holistic experience, and we also provide Internship opportunities for our local students, as well as International students under the Work Training Permit initiatives. To get the ball rolling, follow JCU Singapore on our social media platforms, attend your first career workshop and start building your very first resume.
Lastly, Student Attendance Office. I need to emphasize that attendance is a very important issue.
For Local students, you will need to maintain at least 75% of your class attendance, to qualify to sit for your examinations.
For International students, as per the Student Pass requirement issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority in Singapore, you have to achieve a minimum of 90% of campus attendance. You are also required to be on Campus at least 3 hours per day. While this requirement has been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you are still required to maintain an overall 90% class attendance.
Student Attendance Office is also the office you turn to for your Class Leaves, Medical Certificates, Medical Insurance Coverage, or even the unfortunate withdrawal application should any unforeseen situation occur during your studies.
I also want to highlight two important documents: the James Cook University Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct.
The Student Handbook provides you with comprehensive information and knowledge for your studies, such as Course Information, various support services in your Academic and Professional areas, including the feedback and other important administrative processes.
International students, you must know the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority regulations. All International students are not allowed to work in Singapore, whether the job is paid or unpaid.
The University desires and expects all our students to exercise initiative and responsibility as tertiary students. We have established the Student Code of Conduct which articulates the University’s standards of conduct necessary for all students to have a meaningful learning experience at our University.
The Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct, together with many useful forms, are available on our University website, www.jcu.edu.sg.
Before I end of my presentation today, I would like you to take note of 3 things:
One. As we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, you must take extra care and precautions of your safety and wellbeing, and be a responsible global citizen. Stay safe and continue to practice safe social distancing and good personal hygiene at all times. For our international students still in their home countries, I look forward to meeting you in person in Singapore soon.
Two, in support of the Government’s measures to minimise the spread of COVID-19 as well as your wellbeing, we have shifted many of our classes online. This also provides our international students currently still based in their home countries a smooth transition.
In line with the COVID-19 pandemic requirements, our University support staff are also working remotely, tending to your requests tirelessly. Kindly bear in mind the difference in time zone, and we appreciate your patience in this trying time. We will respond to your emails as soon as we can, so do avoid sending multiple emails to different staff members as this will slow down our response to you. The best thing to do is to contact your designated Student Ambassador for all urgent matters and they will be able to resolve your requests more effectively.
At James Cook University, we strive for continuous improvements and excellence in quality. We benchmark ourselves against the best practice in the industry. Hence, here I ask each and every one of you, if you are invited to complete a student satisfaction survey, I highly encourage you to participate and give us your opinions and feedback!
We take all student feedback seriously, we have developed a webpage named “You said it, We did it” to acknowledge all the feedback we received. So, please do participate in the survey whenever possible.
Finally, I hope you are all confident and ready to create a brighter future with our University in 2021. Always remember, you will never be alone at James Cook University. Student Affairs is always here every step of the way.
