China on Tuesday announced new measures to boost its industrial economy as part of the country’s efforts to drive high-quality development in the sector. The policies, jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, aimed to release more market potential and stimulate the vitality of market entities, said a statement on NDRC’s official website. The country will ensure energy security, stabilize the supply and prices of bulk raw materials, and smooth key industrial and supply chains.

国家发改委网站12月14日发布《国家发展改革委 工业和信息化部关于振作工业经济运行 推动工业高质量发展的实施方案的通知》,提出多项举措挖掘市场需求潜力,激发市场主体活力,振作工业经济运行,推动工业高质量发展。通知要求,扎实推进能源安全保供,做好大宗原材料保供稳价,保持重点产业链供应链顺畅。

Demand potential will be further fulfilled with measures to help implement major projects, advance technological updates of enterprises, cultivate new business forms and models, and promote foreign trade and foreign capital utilization.

挖掘需求潜力,促进重大项目落地见效,大力推动企业技术改造,培育新业态新模式,推动外贸稳定发展,提高外资利用水平。

China will step up safety measures in the industrial sector, improve policy systems in key regions, strengthen financing support for the manufacturing industry, and help firms navigate employment challenges.

健全工业经济保障措施,优化重点区域政策体系,加大制造业融资支持,破解企业用工难题。

More efforts will be made to reduce burdens on medium and small companies and optimize market environments, the document said.

减轻中小企业负担,优化市场环境。

China has four major engineering feats listed among this year’s Global Top Ten Engineering Achievements, according to the journal Engineering, one of China’s most prestigious scientific publications. The four projects are the 500 -meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope; hybrid rice; the Three Gorges Hydroelectric Power Station; and the ultrahigh voltage transmission project.

由中国权威科学期刊《工程》评选的”2021全球十大工程成就”近日发布,中国有四个项目入选:500米口径球面射电望远镜、杂交水稻、长江三峡水利枢纽工程、特高压输电工程。

The other six engineering achievements on the list were attained by other countries: AlphaGo and AlphaFold; the development and application of the CRISPR/Cas9 Gene editing technique; extreme ultraviolet lithography systems; 5G mobile communication technology; public health epidemic prevention and control measures to combat COVID-19, and NASA’s InSight Mars Lander.

其它六个入选项目是:AlphaGo和AlphaFold、CRISPR/Cas9基因编辑技术研发及应用、极紫外光刻系统、第五代移动通信技术、抗击新冠疫情的公共卫生防疫治理、洞察号火星登陆探测器。

The achievements are major engineering projects or breakthroughs with global influence that have been completed in the past five years and have proved their worth, the journal said. They represent the highest level of engineering science and technology in their respective fields.

“2021全球十大工程成就”是近五年在全球范围内完成、实践验证有效的、具有全球影响力的工程科学和技术的重大成果,能够反映某一个或多个领域当前工程科技最高水平。

China’s long-term approach of focusing on economic ties will beat the United States, which relies on military alliances in Asia, said a recent article published in Foreign Policy magazine. The article, entitled “In Asia, China’s long game beats America’s short game,” was written by Kishore Mahbubani, a distinguished fellow at the National University of Singapore’s Asia Research Institute.

美国《外交政策》杂志近日发表题为《在亚洲,中国的长远规划击败美国的短期盘算》的文章,作者是新加坡国立大学亚洲研究院著名研究员马凯硕。文章认为,在亚洲,中国注重经济关系的长期博弈将胜过美国注重军事联盟的短期博弈。

The US is betting on AUKUS, a security partnership among Australia, Britain and the United States, with its main feature of a promise to deliver submarines to Australia, the article said.

文章称,美国强调与澳大利亚和英国签署的”奥库斯”安全条约。该条约的主要内容是承诺向澳大利亚提供核潜艇。

Instead, China is betting on using trade to win over its neighbors, particularly the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), it said.

而中国注重通过贸易来稳固与邻国的关系,特别是与东盟成员国的关系。

Both approaches generate security, however, the former by deterrence, the latter by interdependence, it said.

日本研发新冠自测口罩

A team of Japanese scientists has created a prototype for a mask filter that glows under ultraviolet light and reveals traces of the COVID-19 virus if the wearer is infected.

日本的一个科学家团队日前研发出了一款口罩过滤片样品,如果佩戴者感染了新冠病毒,这款口罩就会在紫外线灯照射下发光,提示病毒的存在。

Scientists from Kyoto Prefectural University say that the masks contain an additional filter within its layers.

京都府立大学的科学家称,他们制作出的这款口罩内含有一层额外的过滤片。

When removed and sprayed with a fluorescent dye containing antibodies, the filter will glow under UV light if traces of the COVID-19 virus are detected.

把这层过滤片取出来喷上含有新冠抗体的荧光染料后,如果接触到新冠病毒,这层过滤片就能在紫外灯照射下发光。

Speaking to Japanese news outlet Kyodo News, researcher Yasuhiro Tsukamoto said that he conducted experiments with 32 people infected with COVID-19 over a 10-day time frame.

研究员冢元安弘告诉日本共同社说,他在10天时间内对32名新冠病毒感染者开展了实验。

The researchers found that the masks worn by these 32 testers glowed brightly and showed traces of the COVID-19 virus after being sprayed with the antibody spray and held under a UV light.

结果发现,32名测试者佩戴过的口罩在喷洒过抗体喷雾后能在紫外灯下发出亮光,表明口罩上有新冠病毒。

Tsukamoto’s team also noted that the glow faded over time as the patients recovered and their viral load decreased.

冢元安弘的团队还指出,随着患者康复,病毒载量降低,口罩发出的光也会减弱。
